Sissification

I've been thinking a lot about weakness lately.  More specifically, I've been thinking about the behaviors and failings I see every day in people all around me.  To narrow the scope even further:  I'm really goddamn tired of people being bitches.

Of course, since you don't share my head with me, that probably is still pretty vague.  Well, my friend, allow me to fill a moment of your time with some rant.

Let's start with the obvious:  Physical weakness.  Frankly, I'm disgusted by what I see.  In the workplace, on the street, on YouTube, in the grocery store, wherever.  When a 100 pound girl hands me a jar she can't open, that's one thing (though I firmly believe she should be able to open the jar 9 times out of 10), but when a man hands me the same jar, and I don't have to put any measurable amount of effort into opening it, I want to slap him like the bitch he is.

I am NOT the pinnacle of human strength.  I'm not even remotely close to my own strength potential.  In terms of what the human body can do, I'm really not that strong.  But in terms of the average fucker I see trying to pick up a child or a sack of groceries, I'm fucking Heracles.  It's retarded.  More than that, it's embarrassing.  Yes, I sometimes get embarrassed for people because of how much they've suppressed their physical abilities through negligence and ignorance.  The ignorance part I can understand; it's a cultural failing.  The negligence part...

Well, even the negligence is, in many cases I'm sure, a cultural failing.  A lot of physical weakness comes from how we've enslaved ourselves to convenience.  People practically crap in their pants when I tell them I'm going to walk to something that's a mile away.  Really?  A fucking mile?  REALLY?!  How sad is it that people think walking a mile is some sort of actual achievement?  And I'm not just talking fat people either.  Skinny people, tall people, short people, fat people, muscular people, people who jog multiple miles in a day-- they all think I'm insane for walking as little as a mile.  Not because driving is faster, but because that's SO MUCH WALKING.  It's sick.

The convenience factor has an accomplice:  The engineering-shit-so-that-an-infant-can-do-it factor.  Easy open bags that are pre-torn because we're a bunch of sissies.  Strollers to carry our children.  Rolling suitcases.  Automatic doors.  Automatic anything.  All designed to take physical work out of our lives, rendering us weaker with each innovation.

As time rolls on, and we sissify more and more, people seem to think that it's normal.  How many times have I heard, "Be careful!  That's really heavy!" before I pick up something that weighs 10 pounds... feels like billions.  Pathetic.  But nobody bats an eyelash when they see somebody who can't open/lift/pull/push an object.  People have no idea what they're body is capable of right now, this second, and we're all OK with that.  It's culturally acceptable to be too weak to carry a bag of groceries a mile from the store to your house.

The cultural failings that affect our physical weakness apply to other areas of weakness.  I see a lot of... I'm not sure what to call it.  I see a lot of people not taking care of shit.  A lot of self-proclaimed victims of outcomes precipitated by their own laziness and negligence.  Take care of your shit!  Pay your bills!  All of your bills!  Get to work!  On time!  Do your fucking job!  Do it right!  Too many people I see and talk to are sitting around waiting for shit to get done for them.  When it doesn't get done and they're all fucked, then they cry about how they got fucked, when they only got fucked because they were too busy fucking off being a lazy bitch and didn't take care of business!  This is absolutely a form of weakness.

Life may be hard to live, or it may not (either way, I don't think it has to be, but that's another subject).  Either way, doesn't matter.  Do what needs doing.  Do it without bitching.  Need food?  Go get some.  Need money?  Get a job.  You aren't too good to scrub a toilet or hand out flyers, asshole.  Need to get from A to B, but your car is broken?  Get there anyway, for fuck's sake.  Walk.  Bike.  Hitch.  Take the bus.

I realize I've degenerated into almost structureless, virtually pointless rants, but fuck it.  I'm so irritated with this bullshit.  I am not the most stand up guy.  I don't have all my ducks in a row.  But come on!  So many folks just passively sitting around playing the victim card anytime ANYTHING goes wrong in their lives, from the minor to the major.  Fills me with some serious hate for my fellow man, I tell you what.

Being a passive victim seems to be OK with people.  Sometimes I think they don't even realize they're being so ridiculous.  Have parents just given up trying to raise their children?  How is it even possible that somebody could have a child, and not somehow communicate to their offspring that said offspring needs to take care of fucking business?  Where or how would that child grow into the idea that doing nothing about anything is acceptable?

I got the first part of this blog (about the physical weakness) written, with a clear view of where I was headed.  Then I got distracted for a couple hours, and completely lost my focus.  Insert jokes about mental weakness here.

In summary, let me just say that I have a very harsh, judgmental view of the people around me, and I am not at all ashamed of it.  Pick yourself up, do what needs doing, burn your victim card, and for fuck's sake, maybe doing a push-up or something wouldn't hurt.

  1. Great post Adam! I liked what you said about how people are blown away about lifting something people should be able to lift but are not amazed when people can't do something. I have been really irritated about the same sort of thing in my classes the "I have to study in college?!!" is starting to really bug me. I have 10x the responsibilities of some of these people and they are bitching and moaning that they have to stay indoors on a nice day and read. Really? That is your beef? The sun is shining? Go outside you dummy! Books are portable. One person asked for an extension because it was her husband's birthday. What?? I have a kid in rehab, 2 in pre-school and I'm typing while nursing and you want an f-ing extension for an f-ing PARTY?? Like you..I want to virtually bitch slap them.

One thing I do want to address is what you said about these people's parents. I know you are probably thinking that these people were raised by lazy parents who were either stupid or over indulgent. But I think this behavior may be more cultural as you were stating before. We have a lot of modern conveniences. And we have a lot of advertising and media that tells us that we are privileged. I'm not making excuses for these people don't get me wrong. They did not have to buy into this sort of laziness. I have met them trust me. I can't stand people who come right out and laugh about how lazy they are. Some of the moms I associate with are just lazy people and I feel like they make me look bad. I'm trying to stay at home and TRY to raise my kids right and I work my ass off at it and these bitches stick their kids in front of the TV all day and fix frozen food because they are too busy watching Oprah or something...I don't know I don't have time for TV...but I do have time to read your blog. LOL. This is my "me" time. I'm doing my own rant here...sorry.

But what I'm trying to say is that parents don't teach their kids to be lazy. People become that way because of human nature. Parents don't teach their kids to do bad things and they do them anyway. Parents teach their kids to do bad things and they turn out great. There is no telling what a kid will do and won't do. So take it easy on us...LOL. Blame the bitches themselves for their own behavior!

That aside you missed your calling as a sociologist. You would love doing field research.
